Course Overview

This qualification is for those working in the oil and gas (or related) industries, who need to gain a sound understanding of the principles of operational health and safety that apply in their specialist area.

For some, the International Oil and Gas Certificate can be an important step towards establishing a lifelong professional career in occupational health and safety. Some who take their International Oil and Gas Certificate progress on to one of our Diploma level qualifications.

Learning Objectives

Learners after completing the course will be able to;

  • Investigate incidents and use the lessons learnt to improve health and safety performance.
  • Recognize hazards, risks and controls inherent to oil and gas industries.
  • Implement a variety of risk management techniques used in oil and gas industries.
  • Understand the principles of assessing and managing contractors.
  • Undertake a safe shift handover.
  • Recognize the types of failure modes that may lead to loss of containment from hydrocarbons

Quite simply, the International Oil and Gas Certificate is a qualification that should lead to safer workplaces.

Intended For

This well respected and internationally recognized qualification is aimed at those who have the responsibility for ensuring safety as part of their day to day duties in the Oil and Gas or Petrochemicals industries, including:- Managers

  • Supervisors
  • Employee representatives
  • Health and Safety Representatives

Students should already have an underpinning knowledge of safety issues and may already have studied one of NEBOSH’s Certificate-level qualifications.

Expected Prior Knowledge

There are no entry requirements for this qualification, but NEBOSH do recommend that learners have an underpinning knowledge of safety issues. This may have been achieved by studying a NEBOSH General Certificate level qualification. It is also important that learners have a suitable standard of English language in order to understand and articulate the concepts contained in the syllabus. NEBOSH recommends that learners undertaking this qualification should reach a minimum standard of English equivalent to an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.0 or higher in IELTS tests.
